About Our Hostel

Our Neighborhood

Hostelling International San Diego, Point Loma, is set in the middle of a quiet, friendly residential community. A beautifully renovated grocery store, a few restaurants, our charming public library and a bank are all within a block of the hostel. There is ample free public parking outside the hostel and the bus stop is just a block away. If you are touring our part of San Diego on bicycle, we have plenty of bike racks inside our courtyard to help keep your bike secure.

Minutes away from the hostel at our local beach, you will find the perfect place for an exciting adventure or a relaxing escape. Ocean Beach (O.B.) is a colorful slice of urban bohemia. There you will find an abundance of quaint, locally-owned restaurants, bars, and shopping. Go surfing, rollerblading, skateboarding, bicycling, or just hang out at the beach. Take a walk down the longest pier on this side of the world and watch the sunset. Every Wednesday evening you can check out the local Farmer’s Market where you can buy locally grown produce, freshly prepared foods, and locally made crafts. Great for enjoying live music and people-watching, the Farmer’s Market has a family-friendly atmosphere with llama rides and a play area for kids.

In the opposite direction from the hostel, we are minutes away from Old Town, the historical birthplace of San Diego. Here you can enjoy several free museums and shops that sell handcrafted wares. Be sure to visit the zesty, Mexican-influenced Plaza del Pasado bazaar where you will find traditional restaurants, one-of-a-kind shops and live music. Old Town is also the location of the nearest transit station where you can take a bus or trolley to any part of San Diego and even to Mexico.

Location

We are located in San Diego just a mile and a half from the beach in the middle of the Point Loma peninsula. We are 3 miles from the airport and Sea World and 6 miles from Downtown, the world-famous San Diego Zoo and Balboa Park.

With an excellent atmosphere for families, groups, tourists, backpackers, cyclists, musicians, artists, and travelers of all ages from all parts of the world; the HI-San Diego, Point Loma hostel is a family-friendly, quiet, cozy, relaxing home-away-from-home. Please come enjoy our spacious kitchen and dining room. We have everything you will need to prepare anything, whether it’s just a quiet meal for yourself or a lavish dinner party for a large group. While you are here, enjoy our vast courtyard where you can play an energizing game of ping-pong, read a book in one of our wooden lounge chairs, take a nap in the hammock, grill up some burgers on the barbeque, roast some marshmallows in the fire pit, or just chill out in the sun.

Our Staff

Our friendly and knowledgeable staff is always ready to help you find the perfect adventure or relaxing spot. We are available at the front desk from 8:00am to 10:00pm and have emergency on call staff 24 hours for your security and safety.
